Lift-off
Since SIDS was linked to babies sleeping on their tummies, babies don't get much time on their bellies anymore, so they are not spending time strengthening the muscles in the back of their neck and their back to support them in sitting, crawling, and walking. Parents are now encouraged to give babies "tummy time", at least 5 minutes a day on their bellies. Generally Griff is not a fan of tummy time. As soon as we put him on his belly he lets us know it is clearly unacceptable, often planting his little head on the mat. We even tried getting a little pillow that he can rest his chest on while we resort to very silly antics to get him to tolerate it better, but without much difference. So, I became a little lax about his tummy time, but I got a little reminder of the importance when I saw his friend Cameron, who is significantly younger in babytime, lifting her head and chest like a champ while on her belly. So I rededicated myself (and Darrell has, too), and I think it is paying off. I put Griff on his little mat with his pillow this morning and put his favorite book in front of him, the one with the orange finger puppet owl coming out the center with the big eyes. And he lifted his head further than he had before, and played there for at least 3 minutes. What a good sport!
hooray for little Griff! He's makin' it look easy! I think he was just making you work to see him do it!!! ;-)
love the hat....cute lil bug!
Congratulations to you two on your adorable little Griff! I am so happy for you - isn't being a parent so wonderful? I hope that we will get to meet Griff next time we are in SC (next Jan, actually!). Big hugs to the three of you: A4
