Grasping

Griff has been having some developmental breakthroughs over the past week. He is sleeping less during the day and super aware of his surroundings. He is making connections. For example, I took him for a walk this evening and he was looking at the trees that line our little road. I moved in close for him to look at the leaves on cedar tree and he spent a lot of time examining them. Then I took him over to look at a eucalyptus tree and then closer at the leaves. I don't know what was going on in his little head, but he looked at the leaves on the eucalyptus for awhile and then he turned his head back to look toward the cedar we had just been looking at. Then he looked at the eucalyptus and then at the cedar several more times. The wheels are spinning. Two weeks ago I took him to a meeting at Elkhorn Slough and everyone was oohing and aahing about how great he was to sleep all the way through a two hour meeting. Not so this week. He was awake and decided to try his new favorite "get-mom-to-react-immediately" voice, an incredibly high pitched scream, without warning. Oh man, it hurts my earsdrums and it isn't very amenable to adult discussion. We'll see how long I can get away with bringing him to meetings. He is also trying other sounds and adding them to his repertoire. Those are much more cute. Griff is also getting so much better at grasping and bringing things to his mouth. He is pretty motivated to chew on things and everything goes straight to his mouth to oral examination and, I think, gum relief. His doesn't seem too fussy from it so far.
Griff doing his current favorite thing, standing.
Deep thoughts while chewing on his thumb...I recognize that stance, a lot like Great grandpa Arnold at that same table!
