Ode to Shocks
Yesterday Griff and I ventured downtown to pick up the mail and drop off some checks at the bank. Griff is getting better about being in his stroller. For him, it seems that there are two problems with being in the stroller, one he is not being held and two he sits in his car seat while in it. He has made it clear that he is really not fond of riding in the car, regardless of whether there is someone sitting with him to entertain and soothe him. I guess he is like his Pop in that way, doesn't like being in the car. When we take him on walks with the stroller we always take the carrier with us, in case he is really upset. We can put him in the carrier for awhile and then back into the stroller. Yesterday, I didn't have time for that because I had to get back for an appointment. So, when Griff really started ramping up about halfway there, I picked him up, put him over my shoulder, and kept walking while pushing the stroller with the other hand. The jostling while on my shoulder seemed to settle him down and he started to sleep, so I put him back into the stroller and veered off the side of the path, where it was a little bumpy. This is one place where the shocks come in, they soften the bumps just enough but still allow him to be jostled as he likes. He fell nicely asleep. Once we got to the post office, there was a line and I was afraid he would wake up again and start crying (no time for that yesterday) and the shocks saved the day again. I pushed down on the stroller handle and it bounced back up, over and over. This nice bouncing action kept little Griff happy as a clam, sleeping away. The same happened in the bank. Then I jogged most of the way home, our first run since the first trimester, without a peep from Griff, sleeping all the way. Love, love, love those shocks!
We can relate. Dylan hated the car and strollers for a really long time! In fact, anything that "typically" worked to soothe other babies didn't work for Dylan -- he didn't like swings, car rides, or vibrating chairs, or anything like that!
Glad the bouncing worked for Griff! It's nice when there's at least 1 thing that'll settle the li'l ones...!
Luckily Griff likes the vibrating chair and the swing at times, too. And he is starting to be okay with some time on his own looking at things; he is laying in his co-sleeper right now gazing up at his quilt. But nothing works all the time, for sure!
