Wedding Weekend Adventure
Our friends got married in Sonoma County this weekend and we decided to make a fun trip out of it. We took off from Santa Cruz on Friday and stopped at the zoo in San Francisco. Griff loves his books with pictures of animals and we have been teaching him their names. It was so much fun to take him to the zoo and see him watch his books come to life, see those monkeys he imitates charging around playing with each other, see the brown bear he hugs lumber around its tundra habitat, and see the giraffe he loves to chew on (that's Sophie the giraffe for those familiar with the toy) eat leaved using an incredibly dexterous black tongue! He was completely worn out by the end of our three-hour adventure, without even taking a step. He slept a lot of the way up the coast and went down easily once we got the tent up at our camping spot in Duncans Mills, north of Bodega Bay.
On Saturday we woke up bright and early. Griff was very excited about the tent and spent some time testing its engineering. We went to visit with friends and then got breakfast. I took a nap afterward while Darrell and Griff went on adventures. A favorite, hanging out next to the Russian River and checking out the copious quantities of very interesting rocks it has deposited. I mean really, what is not to love about it! Then we got ready and headed out to Mario and Bree's wedding along a gorgeous bluff overlooking the Pacific. It couldn't have been a more fitting location for two adventurous souls who have just moved onto their sailboat together! The reception was held at the Duncans Mills Sportsman Club, with dinner followed by dancing to Joe Goldmark and the Seducers, a country and western band with some serious flair and a Hank Williams Sr sound. Griff got down with some serious diaper bounce dancing, as well as finding some nice sticks.
The next day we got up early and packed up camp and went to visit with friends before everyone headed home. Griff had a great time helping with the packing! Then we went down to the river again to check out some salmon running up the stream, seals swimming around catching them, and some beautiful herons, sticks, and rocks. We hopped in the car just in time for his first nap and pulled into San Francisco just after he woke up. We went for a hike above Sutro Baths and along Land's End, a nice treat! We let Griff walk on his own, tiring him out for the last leg of our trip. We had a quick visit with Great Grandpa Arn on the way home. Overall, a nice, relaxing weekend with family and friends with lots to celebrate. Congratulations Mario and Bree!
