Mouthy
It is midnight and Griff and Darrell are fast asleep. Griff has been having a tough time with sleep lately, more difficult than usual, waking up crying because his teeth are coming in and they hurt. He was crying in his sleep earlier and finally woke up and I gave him a dose of pain reliever. He has one new tooth, but from the lumps and red spots on his gums, there are several more on their way.

This is not the only thing that has been going on with his mouth, though. Griff has really started to delve into the world of speech. His comprehension has been impressive for over a month, and continues to grow, but what is getting us these days is how much he is starting to be able to say and recall how to say. He has mastered greetings, with a high-pitched "hi" and "bye" accompanied by waves, but often when the person has just disappeared from sight. One of his favorite things to say, "meee meee" said in a rather high pitch and very loudly, is a little grating, but it gets the point across..."I want." He is starting to differentiate his various uses for "ba," one becoming a little more like the beginning of "book" and used when referring to books, one for sheep, one for ball, one for butterfly. He points out "bee" in his picture books, as well as "birh" for birds. He asks us to "ree" books to him and has mastered the sign for please and says "pahweeth" when he asks for things, particularly when we remind him to, but sometimes on his own. We are working on thank you, which he says with less regularity. Yesterday he started saying "tur-tow" for turtle and he has been blurting it out almost as a joke at times and we catch him saying it under his breath at times, too.
And speaking of jokes, he has been really developing and using his laugh more and more over the past week. I feel like he is developing a sense of humor, really getting the idea of jokes and silliness. It is such a delight to do things he finds funny and laugh together!
Less about his mouth, he is really picking up speed and his curiosity is not waning in the slightest. I took him up to Adelia's baby shower on Sunday and had less than a sentence with most of the people I know there. I spent very little time at the party and most of the time following the explorer chase the ducks and geese, find the yurt, adventure in the garden, play in the fountain, make loops through the house and back out to the garden and back again. He just wants to see and touch and figure out everything!
Below are some pictures from the UCSC Farm and Garden Harvest Festival last month. We had a great time, despite the very hot day! Lots of watermelon helped with the heat. Griff loved playing with the pumpkins with friends Ayla and Quincy and was pretty excited to meet some friendly goats.

sweet boy!! I can't see those pictures, though, mama!! YOu need to fix that so I can see how your sweet li'l fella is growing!!
Yeah, I don't know where they went...they were there when I checked the post before I went to bed last night. Anyhow, added them back in and everything looks fine again!
Okay, it ate my pictures again. I wonder if i am over my space limit...off to check.
I'm not over my space limit and it magically seems to be working again. Go figure!
