Off to school
Griff started school this morning. Yes, he is already in preschool! We decided to enroll him in the parent preschool coop, where parents take a very active role in the classroom and we get guidance on development and parenting from the very experienced teachers. And the kids learn how to be social little beings! So far it seems like a very wonderful community and a great place for Griff to be. I wasn't sure we would go yesterday since he had a runny nose for the past week, and the preschool has a stringent stay home if you have been sick policy. He woke up chipper and without a runny nose this morning, so off we went. The children had free play for the first hour or so, in the classroom and in the little yard behind the classroom. Griff was very busy checking everything out, from the balls to the water table to the play-dough to the push toys. He climbed and slid and walked and crawled and had a great time. All of the parents stayed with their kids, so it was busy but we avoided any major issues with traumatic grabbing of toys from one another etc. Snack time came next, with all the kids sitting in little chairs around a table with their plates and cups eating their snacks.
And then we went out into the big playground for about 45 minutes. Griff had a great time playing in the sand box, riding on the carts, climbing and going down the slide, and walking around checking everything out.
Then back into the classroom for circle time. Griff was about 15 minutes past his normal naptime by this point and sitting in a circle singing songs was not what he had in mind. So he pushed toys, played with balls, climbed the step stool to the sink (before I noticed...bad mom!), and generally had fun playing. Overall, he had a great time and seemed at least a little interested in some of the other kids. I am sure he will get more interested as time goes on!
