US Tour 2010 Part 2

Griff and I awoke in Ft Collins to a beautiful day, ready to head up to Laramie. But the weather between Laramie and Ft Collins was not cooperating, so my adviser, Dan, decided to come down and pick us up in his 4-wd. I was glad he did. It was super windy and snow was coming down, blowing hard and decreasing visibility. It would not have been great conditions for my maiden snow driving experience. Once in Laramie, we decided to talk a little walk, so bundled up Griff and introduced him to snow. Then Alex got him all snuggled in the stroller some neighbors loaned us and we headed out. (No, I didn't make the frog hat, but I couldn't resist it when I found it at the 2nd hand store! Hey, I won't be able to dress him like this for long.) Griff got tired of the stroller pretty quick and wanted to be carried. Alex seemed pretty happy to oblige. By the time we got back to the house, Griff was pretty pooped and it was time to put him down for the night. Once snuggled into his peapod (another fantastic piece of travel gear that fits into the luggage) Dan, Alex, and I had dinner and I headed to bed. The next morning Dan and I set in to work while Alex took care of Griff. Dan and I made good progress on outlining my dissertation chapters and putting together a plan for me to finish within a year. Griff had a great time with Alex and their infant-centric dog Topi, the first dog on our many dog trip. Topi LOVES babies, can't stay away, wants to kiss them and kiss them some more. With Alex, Griff tore up magazines, crawled and pulled up to standing, looked at the sideways blowing snow, and, drumroll....climbed stairs! Yes, the little guy has now tackled stairs. We are in trouble!
A little later in the day, Dan, Topi, Griff, and I headed up to Happy Jack in the Snowy Range for a little hike. There was more snow than Dan anticipated and it was blowing. Beautiful, though! Dan and Topi took off for a little longer hike while I tottered along, a bundled up me wearing a size too small warm fuzzy boots with a bundled up napping baby strapped to my front. Griff and I didn't make it very far, but it was really nice to be out! Alex and Dan made really yummy food while I was there, including a really fun visit with Dai that involved gin and tonics and home-made gyoza. Griff got to try little bits of food, too, while sitting in his tie-chair. Griff practiced climbing up at every opportunity, including up everyone's legs and the dresser... He had a really special treat on Sunday, Easter morning. Alex has some of the oldest bunnies in the world, at 4+ years old, Crow and Magpie are very cute. Griff hadn't really noticed them before as they were in the sunroom of the house that isn't normally open. But Alex took him in there while I was packing for the next leg of our trip to Boulder and Griff had a blast playing with the bunnies. He thought grumpy Magpie was especially funny when she gave him her attitude, giving a little "hruumph" and thumping her front paws. Crow is the friendlier of the two and Griff had a chance to practice his "gentle" petting.
Next up greyhounds, flatirons, and momos!
