Happy Two Months
Today is Griff's 2-month birthday. I just can't believe it has already been 2 months since he was born. And yet, it seems like such a long time ago when Darrell first placed him on my belly and I heard his first cries. I have a feeling that this will be a reoccurring theme throughout my life with this little one. So, before I forget, I want to note some of the changes in his first two months.
Griff has gone from a very sleepy little baby to a sleepy baby with wakeful and interactive periods. He loves to lay on his back and look at things, his quilt, out the window, his black and white mobile and book, peoples' faces. He has begun smiling more and more in the past few days and he is beginning to coo and babble back when we are speaking to him sometimes. He has gone from waking up 3-4 times a night to waking up only 2-3 times a night. He loves to play with his food, and he can take a bottle and breastfeed like a champ. He is gaining weight and getting longer; he started at 8lbs 1oz and 20.75 inches and is now 12lbs 2oz and 23 inches. He has rolled from his front to his back several times. He has taken a looooong road trip to Grandma Pam and Grandpa Big's house and visited The City, including a picnic in Golden Gate Park. He has attended his first scientific conference (induct them early and often). He has met a gazillion people and charmed them all with his amazing hair and chubby cheeks. He has had his first set of vaccinations (and felt real pain -- ouch!). Griff is developing a wider array of sounds and non-verbal cues and we are trying our hardest to decipher them. And he doesn't seem to be taking himself quite so seriously these days, being coaxed into a smile sometimes when he was gearing up for a cry. The past few days he has been able to entertain himself by looking at things while lying in his crib alone for up to thirty minutes at a time, giving me hope that while he still can't nap in any position that doesn't include belly-to-belly contact and some form of constant motion, I will be able to start getting some time to work on chunks of my dissertation. He is incredibly snuggly and lovable and squishable and my love for him and his poppa keep growing every day (what a sap I am). I can't wait to see what the next two months will bring. So happy birthday, Griff!
