Like A Baby

We have been struggling with sleep with Griff since the beginning. His favorite way to fall asleep and stay asleep is nursing. This means that anytime he is ready for a nap or to sleep for the night, I have had to be ready for a nap or to go to sleep as well. As you can imagine, this has been a little less than convenient. We have been reluctant to just let Griff cry it out, aka Ferberizing, but the situation had become untenable since neither of were sleeping very well and I couldn't get anything done during the day. I tried techniques from a book advocating a no crying method, but Griff resisted. Darrell found a book that has a philosophy that is somewhere in between, called the "sleep easy solution." It is our second day and the second nap of the second day...Griff fell asleep in his own crib for an hour and twenty minutes within 5 minutes of being put down for the first nap, and is asleep for his second nap of the day after 11 minutes of rolling around and fussing. At this rate, Griff is going to be a champion sleeper all on his own within a week! I am ecstatic for him and for me. But I do miss those sweet moments of cuddling my sleeping baby. I suspect once he gets really used to sleeping on his own and is very practiced in his solo falling asleep methods, we will be able to have a sleeping cuddle session now and then. But for now, I have so many things on my list to do, I just don't know where to start...

Yeah, go Griff! I jinxed it and he woke up about 5 minutes after I posted this. But tonight, he fell asleep in his crib almost as we walked out of the room...literally we walked to the monitor, turned it on, and he was already asleep. Soooo exciting!

Oh man -- maybe it is time for us to take some notes from your book...but the cuddling IS nice!
