Little Explorer

It has been a fun week with Griff. He is super excited to explore his world and determined to get down on the ground and touch everything with his hands and his mouth. It has been a lot easier to do that recently with the glorious weather we have been having, the ground is drying out, everything is greening up, and it is nice and warm. On Wednesday, Amy, the gal who sits for he and Ayla, took them outside on the lawn at Nina and Erik's the other day and they kept her busy. You can see her in action, trying to wrangle one baby while the other heads in the other direction. She showed her pro skills with the double pine cone diversion. Nice going, Amy!
On Friday I got a downright giddy email from Nina trying to round up some moms for an early ladies night out, with the babies. Her invitation was filled with references to Kool and the Gang's "Ladies Night" and Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." This alone made it impossible to turn her down, and since I was halted the night before in my lab work by a faulty chemical, I decided to join her. We headed out to Hula's Hawaiian-Asian fusiony and we were seated near the bar where the music was loud enough to keep baby noises from bothering anyone much, but not too loud that we couldn't have a conversation. We were joined by several other moms who I haven't seen in a long time and their very cute babies and we had a great time. As Nina said "the group of six mamas, 5 babies and one baby-daddy ended up sitting right in the corner by the tiki bar and probably helped spark awkward birth control conversations on many a first date that was trying to be romantic at the bar. " It was great! On Saturday, Darrell ran the Big Sur Mud Run, a 5k run at Fort Ord with lots of mud and obstacle course type activities and drill sergeants yelling at people to drop and give them 20. While he was having fun doing that (yes, he says it is fun!) Felicia came by and we went for a hike in Fall Creek with Griff. But not without some swinging in the chair swing first. At the turn-around point in our hike in the redwood forest, we put Griff on the ground and let him explore. He was super happy to babble while grabbing dried leaf litter and tasting it, pulling out forget-me-nots, and scaling logs and rocks. It took him about 2 seconds in the carrier on the way back to fall asleep. Uh, Griff, you aren't supposed to pull out plants in a state park, buddy. Inspecting leaf litter.Waving at Felicia with some bark. So proud he climbed the rock all by himself!
Up up up in the air with Felicia!
